Meanwhile, Eli (John Goodman), the family’s patriarch finds himself in a point of crisis as he mourns the loss of his wife Aimee-Leigh and questions whether the Gemstones are still serving a higher power as they aggressively expand their empire.

2019.04.18 19:02 mikeharron014 Do you believe in signs?

Long story short, I’m still madly in love with my ex. She’s already dating someone else and the relationship was mostly my fault (didn’t cheat) and basically I realized far too late that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.
Anyways lately I’ve been seeing some “signs” about her. Stuff that is almost too weird to be considered coincidental. Now I’m a very analytical person and agnostic and usually do not believe in things happening for a reason or the universe telling you something but I’m wondering if I’m just seeing what I want to see bc im looking for it or if I’m not actually going crazy here.
So basically the first thing that happened was a tweet that came up in my timeline from someone I didn’t even follow and it wasn’t trending or anything (it had 3 likes and 1 RT; very weird it was in my timeline at all) and it was a tweet that ranked Heath Ledgers best performances as 1)A knights Tale 2) 10 things I hate about you 3)Dark Knight. Now the reason this is weird (besides being wrong lol) is that one of our favorite inside jokes is that she used to say half jokingly A knights Tale was always Ledgers best performance. This would always get a rise out of me as I explained to her in great detail about how great he was as the Joker (winning Oscar) and this happened at least 10-15 times over the course of dating. It was a very specific “argument” that we used to have and it just hit me how random it was that that tweet came up a month after our break up.
The second thing is even more random. So I introduced her to The New Girl awhile ago. She ended up loving it basically becoming her fav show. Well the latest season came out on Netflix recently and while I was watching it, there is a scene in which Schmidt says something along the lines of “you never know what you have until it’s gone” which is how I’ve been feeling lately given all the regret I have regarding our relationship. Anyways I didn’t think anything of it until the very next scene in which “A Brown Eyed Girl” cover song came on (amazing cover by the way) which if you’re still reading can guess she does have brown eyes and I once sang that song to her very lovingly on a mini road trip of ours not even a year ago. At this point I’m like whoa kinda weird but THEN in the very next episode the Dermot Mulroney character (I forget his name) starts talking to Jess about seeing signs before her and Nick get married. I recently told her I wanted to marry her after being against marriage when we dated.
So I’m clearly biased and hope these are way too random and improbable but I need some solid unbiased answers here. What do y’all think? Do you believe in signs? If so are these instances signs? Or am I just holding on to hope?

2018.06.24 09:04 chadeverard Your fav BF/GF/dates/flings of all the Friends? (Other than who they eventually ended up with)

The title seems pretty self explanatory. Who are your favorite dates/bf/gf/significant others for all the Friends?
Monica: Richard (Tom Selleck) Rachel: Gavin (Dermot Mulroney) Phoebe: Parker (Alec Baldwin) Ross: Mona (Bonnie Somerville) Chandler: Janis (Maggie Wheeler) Joey: Erin (Kristin Davis)
As a side note, I really disliked Tag, Kathy, Julie, Gary & Emily the most. Janis was annoying and all, but I didn’t really dislike her. Emily was THE worst though. Absolute worst character on the show. I know it was designed that way, but she really was a drag.

2016.12.08 04:24 qaaqa Am I reading this wrong or did the Comet gunman act the part of "the gunman" in a movie called "Something About Pizza" shot in Luxemburg about a little girl missing her pizza ?

So this started more about the witness but when i saw the gunmans movie history it morphed morei nto that. Sorry.
Just tell me if i am reading this wrong.
Gunman at pizza shop had hit 13 yr old with car in Salisbury Nc in october. Oh and is an actor on imdb. Media witness is a dc immigration lawyer with anti trump postings and other very interesting tweets. His lawfirm has recommend by nancy pelosi onthe website.
Hereis the car hit story.
https://archive.is/lCACL
He seems to have gone out of his way to get near a group of kids when he had the whole road to himslef and ended up hitting a 14 yr old.
SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - A teenager was airlifted to a local hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Rowan County Monday evening. The incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. on the 1800 block of Harrison Road in Salisbury. Officials said 13-year-old Kenyatta Belton suffered head, torso and leg injuries. Belton was flown to an area hospital. There is no word on his condition. Police said Edgar Welch, 28, was driving a Buick LeSabre that struck the teen. Welch stayed at the scene of the crash and waited for police. “We got concerned and came outside, seen a bunch of people down in the road, couldn’t tell what was going on," said neighbor Charlene Swing. Investigators have not said how the wreck may have happened or if any charges are being filed. Police say Welch was driving 45 miles an hour, which they say is the speed limit on that stretch of road. The victim was apparently walking with several other friends when the accident happened. “We was walking down the road, just a normal walk, and this one car had the full road," said Sean Lankford, who was walking in the group. "We was pretty much on the white line and he wiped out one of my friends and he had the whole road to turn into even the whole other lane, even in the same lane he could have avoided him." “My friend is really really badly hurt, it’s just a normal walk gone bad and one car made a big difference," Lankford added. According to the police report, several people in the area rushed to help the teen. One man used a tee shirt to create a tourniquet to stop bleeding from the teen's chest. When police arrived they used a small "cat tourniquet" to stop the bleeding until EMS arrived. Copyright 2016 WBTV. All rights reserved.
And he is an actor if its the same guy. Exact same name though.
All the rest of this is from imdb
Actor http://m.imdb.com/name/nm2625901/ http://archive.is/YCrhG
Worked on films titled Mute ,The Mill, The Bleeding . I dont even want to know what they were about. He acted. And was crew in some. Actually he wrote "The Mute"
Oh hell..
I was wrong. He was actually an ACTOR in 2 films
THE BLEEDING
http://m.imdb.com/title/tt1206881/?ref_=m_nm_knf_act_i1
Edit: apparently imdb has a false entry for him in "something about pizza" how that was done so fast is strange in itself. I found a dec capture that does NOT show him with more than 1 acting credit and nothing about "something about pizza" so i guess it was added https://web.archive.org/web/20161206073247/http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2625901/
Backing that up http://archive.is/6Vl1T
So take the rest of this about "something about pizza" with a grain of salt because it seems IMDB's is not perfect
If it was a trap then it has perhaps been discovered with this amazon owned imdb database alteration.
Maybe it was someone trying to send a signal . They certianly picked an interesting movie title and storyline and location to link him to. Who knows?
In his new york times interview the gunman clearly said he drove to comet pizza from north carolina concerned about possible traped kids. Why would this guy have such strong concerns more than so many other people who also have kids so as to drive so far? The other movie references like "The Bleeding" are as far as i know unaltered like the bleeding which has another actor who also worked in 1989 with corey haim and corey feldman . Those two coreys said they were passd around in pedophil hollywood when they were young.
and ....wait for it

Back to The Bleeding which was the comet gunmans only other movie he acted in besides "something about pizza".
Now someone who worked directly with corey haim and corey feldman in 1989 ..the original kids who exposed hollywood child abuse.. was also in The Bleeding with the Comet Gunman so the actor circle with the comet gunman is now one or two steps away from the most famous hollywood pedophilia victims yet known.

William McNamara Biography Showing all 14 items Jump to: Overview (4) Mini Bio (1) Trivia (8) Personal Quotes (1) Overview (4) Date of Birth 31 March 1965, Dallas, Texas, USA Birth Name William West McNamara Nickname Billy Height 5' 10" (1.78 m) Mini Bio (1) William McNamara studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and has since notched up over sixty-five film and TV appearances. One of his first roles was that of Joel in the teen movie Dream a Little Dream (1989) with Corey Feldman and Corey Haim. He followed this up with the Bette Midler film Stella (1990).
It was during the nineties, however, that William - arguably - turned out some of his best performances. He gave a great performance as Derek Wolfe Jr in the Ernest R. Dickerson manhunt thriller Surviving the Game (1994), in which he worked with a cast of talented veteran actors including F. Murray Abraham, Gary Busey, Rutger Hauer, and John C. McGinley. That same year he was again teamed with Gary Busey - and Tom Berenger - in the Navy comedy Chasers (1994), directed by Dennis Hopper.
His most prized - and chilling - role, though, is that of Peter Foley the copycat serial killer in the psychological thriller Copycat (1995). The film also starred Sigourney Weaver, Dermot Mulroney, and jazz musician Harry Connick Jr.. He appeared with Andrew McCarthy and John Stockwell in Stag (1997), and made his way towards the millennium opposite Gabriel Byrne in the World War II drama The Brylcreem Boys (1998).
William's first feature film role was in acclaimed cult horror director Dario Argento's slasher classic, Opera (1987). But don't fear: the actor is actually a kind spiritualist and an avid animal rights activist, putting much time, energy, and money into the plight of the dolphins and small whales off the shores of Japan. In addition William involves himself in animal rescue in general, Kundalini, and Yoga!
Like Henry Rollins, his co-star in Time Lapse (2001), William McNamara gets his own hands dirty while 'actively' pursuing causes that are close to his heart. - IMDb Mini Biography By: Matt Lee-Williams
Trivia (8) Ex-fiance of actress xxxxxxxxxx edited out His father was a professional race car driver for the Ford Motor Company. His mother was an interior designer. Attended Columbia University. Received a Cable Ace Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in Wildflower (1991). Studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Institute. Not only did he do his own stunts for Copycat (1995), but also spent time with Dr. Park Dietz, a forensic psychiatrist, in order to prepare for his role as the psychotic Peter Foley. Was asked to be the model and spokesman for in the Calvin Klein underwear ads, but turned down the offer. He feared that it would ultimately damage his career by leading to his being typecast. Is a huge fan of Don Knotts. Personal Quotes (1) "I knew I would be an actor since I was seven or eight. My Mom and I lived out in Los Angeles and one of her close friends was Valerie Perrine....She was like the Julia Roberts of the seventies and we used to hang out at her house. She had all these interesting people over all the time. I hung out and watched these people and it was like hanging out at the circus or carnival...That's the kind of attraction it is." Interview, 1996.

I found these quore of his interesting "Like a circus."
Turned down calvin klein underwear model job.
"Corey haim and corey feldman" in 1989.
I think it was around this time that the coreys were saying they were passed around for abuse right?.

What was it like working with the cast and crew of Dumb and Dumber To? It was surreal working with "Harry" and "Lloyd" I remember my first day of shooting was just the three of us in a hearse rolling down the highway and I remember thinking "this is crazy! I can't believe I'm doing a scene with "Harry" & "Lloyd!" I just wanted to text all my friends... It was a total honor to work with these guys and to be part of this movie!
Do you have any off camera memories from SNL? Also, SNL... my second show ever was the show where Ashlee Simpson walked off the stage during her second song... I was standing right next to the stage and I couldn't believe what I was seeing... I was totally shocked. I remember saying to one of the writers who was standing next to me, "...does she know this is a live show?" and he could only muster a response of "Holy shit..." There's one memory...
2 questions for you Mr. Riggle...1.) would you of sent Alex Gordon if you were the Royals 3rd base coach? 2.) Which one of the players on the Giants team has a punch able face? POWWW. Sending Alex Gordon will be debated for years to come in KC...however, a couple thoughts... I would have loved to see Alex get the go-a-head and head for homeplate on that play...odds are he would have got picked off at home...but maybe, just maybe he gets in safe... however, if he was sent and did get nailed, people would have pouted and complained that we should have "never" sent him... There's no way to know. 2) No punches for the Giants...they played a great series and had a great victory.
What was the transition from Marine to comedian like? You kick ass. POW! 1) Thanks! 2) It wasn't hard, that's who I am... The work, grinding it out for years trying to catch a break and develop as an actor and comedian while all your friends and family quietly judge your choices and it feels like everyone around you is moving forward in their lives and you're not getting anywhere... that's the hard part... Pardon the run-on sentence, I'm trying to answer a lot of questions here, no time for proper grammar!
Hey Rob, two questions. 1.) What event(s) occurred in flight school that made you decide to pursue a career in comedy? 2.) What actoactress came across as extremely intimidating but turned out to be a cool dude/chick once you started working with them? 1) There was no "event" that occurred... I just knew that if I pinned on those wings, my future was determined and there wouldn't be any going back. I knew that I had to try comedy and acting... I had to give it a shot. I could live with not succeeding, but I couldn't live with not knowing what could have been. 2) Dermot Mulroney is an actor I have so much respect for... I've been a fan for years, I just love his style... I got to work with him on "Big Miracle" and he was AWESOME!
Hey Rob. Louisville native here. When was the last time you were here to visit? What's your favorite thing to do here? (I just assume you still affiliate from here since you are from here.) Holy moly!! It's my Cake Day!! I was born in Louisville. I was raised in Overland Park, Kansas. I went back to Louisville to perform stand up at the "Lebowski Festival" and it went terribly wrong. It was the wrong venue for stand up, I was fairly new to stand up and the crowd didn't want stand up...they wanted the "Big Lebowski" film to start and I was in the way... I went down to 4th street and had a several "pity" drinks and haven't been back since.
What's your best hangover cure? Two bottles of water right away. Then a bloody-mary made with Loaded Vodka! It's called a "Re-Load"* *This is in no way an endorsement of Loaded Vodka, which you can find more information about here... www.lifeisloaded.com Be sure to ask your local bartender for Loaded Vodka!
LOADED VODKA!!!
Was it hard working on a sequel to one of the most beloved comedies of all time knowing how much it has to live up to? Thank you for doing this AMPOW It wasn't hard... The originals all came back ready to go! The script was funny, the characters are hilarious... Also, I never think in those terms, I just try to make the most of what I'm given, I try to play my role and serve the comedy/script/movie... I personally think if you liked the first "Dumb & Dumber" you going to like D&DTO!
How did you celebrate Veteran's day? I went to my daughter's school Veteran's Day assembly, then did press for "Dumb & Dumber To" then did @midnight on Comedy Central, then took my family out for dinner. I also reached out to many of my friends from the Marines and wished them well. Semper Fi everyone!
How do you feel about playing characters that can be jerks? Well... I've known some jerks in my life, so I'm aware of how they behave. I think, comedically speaking, playing a jerk is the most fun an actor can have. I would love to play a different type of character, however it's not that easy to find the opportunities...
In your opinion, who is the funniest actor or comedian that you have ever worked with? That's truly tough to say... I love so many different comedians/actors that I've worked with... I can't say there is "a" favorite, but some of my favorites have been... Will Ferrell, Jonah Hill, Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Jake Johnson, Damon Wayans Jr. and Channing TatYUM.
Will you be at Facebook tonight? Please say yes. Can't say for sure? I'm doing "The Soup" tonight live...so we'll have to see after that? Glad you like our "Facebook" show! Anyone else interested in this...it's a live, improv show at the UCB Theater at Franklin...Wednesday nights at 9:30 p.m.
Hey Rob! It looks like you guys had a ball filming "21 Jump street". Were Jonah and Channing great guys to work with? I need me some Doug McQuade. Honestly... it was a dream shoot! Jonah and Channing are both incredible guys. Jonah is so generous and funny...he's an amazing writer and producer...like one of the best I've ever worked with...and Channing is a total stud. He's funny, clever and almost as cut as me...
Have you ever done full frontal nudity? Would you be willing to do a Buffalo Bill in a movie? Not yet! Keep looking for the right script...but alas it just hasn't appeared yet... I would probably do a "Buffalo Bill" (let's call it the "Tuck Dance") in a movie, but I'm afraid it would be TOO sexy!
Loved your 30-minute standup on Comedy Central several years ago. Any chance of seeing more routines, or are you strictly doing movies now? I hate Cotton-Tops. I loved doing stand up! I'm really more of an improviser though... I haven't done stand up since I hosted the ESPY's, so it's been a couple years. I would love to build a new set and get back out there, but right now, I'm focused on acting. Thanks!
Rob Riggle. You and I are going on a date. Where do you take me and what do we do? P.S. Pow! Not 100% sure but probably... Drinks, dinner, Hollywood party, then off to a cock fight or some other blood sport that involves high stakes gambling...then some more drinks and we'll call it a night!
Easy there Rob, I already called dibs on this one. Hey man...she approached me...
Listen, you're doing great man, this is an awesome AMA. We're having a great time and everybody's having fun. You pulled it off, but if you don't change your face, I'm gonna change it for you. Are we in international waters yet?!
Hey Rob, thank you for your service even if it was an O type in the Marines (GO ARMY). My question is about when you did the bit on Berkeley for the daily show. Did any of them know who you were? The one hippie that you interviewed had to know something right? I don't think anyone in that segment knew I was a Marine. The gentlemen I did the sit down interview with knew we were doing some kind of "bit" (it was The Daily Show after all) but he didn't know I was a Marine...nor did he know what the "bit" was...
Who do you think Kansas should hire as their new football coach? Also, loved the intro at late night last year. I don't care who it is... so long as they get it right this time! Inspire the fan base, get a great recruiter, someone who can build a winning program, someone who loves Kansas University!
Mr Riggle - first, thanks for your service to our country. Now, the question: you always play such an energetic, almost electric character (looking at you, Gil Thorpe). Where do you pull your inspiration from? Are you usually an energetic person? Thanks! Well, a lot of the characters I play are "big" characters that require a lot presence and energy... Also, energy can be compelling to watch... Real life...I pretty quite and relaxed...most of the time...
Are you friends with fellow Overland Park guys Paul Rudd and Jason Sudekis? Yes! I'm friends with both Paul and Jason! In fact, we do a charity event every year back in KC called the "Big Slick!" www.bigslickkc.org
Hey Rob. What is the most interesting thing no one knows about you? I love all music genres! ...but sometimes when I'm rolling down the highway, I will sing the shit out of some Avril Lavigne. What?!
Mr. Riggle, I played at the last Big Slick KC (sat next to Eric Stonestreet) & had a blast. Why did they switch to Bowling this year? Unfortunately, the Missouri Gaming commission made it impossible for us to continue with a charity poker tournament. Therefore, we had to switch to bowling.
How did it feel getting shot in the dick? You realize of course, that was a scene from a movie... It was make believe. That didn't really happen...
Your picks have been top notch this year, what's the secret? You like the Chiefs vs the Hawks this week? Thank you blueschooler! No secret here, just straight up gut feeling calls and I ALWAYS pick the Chiefs.
Hey Rob, What does Channing Tatum smell like? Asking for a friend. He smells like winning and freshly cut grass in June, somewhere in the mountains near Aspen...
What's up with the art behind you in your proof picture? What? This is my African Art / Scary Masks room... Everybody has a room like this, right?

Download If I Stay movie Plot:- Boasting a kinetic and visually-adventurous filmmaker, a battle-tested and diverse action star and a supporting cast equal parts testosterone and heartbreaking vulnerability, not to mention its stripped-down, man vs. nature plot, If I Stay promises a lot. That it doesn?t quite make good on its promise demonstrates the strange state movies are in right now. Half actioner, half drama, Carnahan?s film reflects a time for cinema in which we expect to know everything about the movie we are seeing before we see it. Trying to go against the grain here might severely hurt If I Stay?s commercial chances after the first weekend.
With a star like Liam Neeson and its Taken-mimicking release date (not to mention it?s deceiving marketing campaign), writedirector Joe Carnahan?s film appears to be an action extravaganza, much like Unknown was last year. This time around, the film in question is not what is hinted at. Carnahan?s film, the story of a plane crash in the Great North, its seven survivors and their attempt to escape the wolf-populated wilderness, is equal parts bombastic and meditative.
Beautifully shot by Masanobu Takayanagi (Warrior), the film makes the most of its location. We feel the snow and wind race across the screen, many times from a wide angle that nearly blots out the principal players, melting them into white dots on a much larger tapestry. This visual magnetism is matched by a elegant, spare score from Marc Streitenfeld (Robin Hood), the man behind the music for Ridley Scott?s upcoming Prometheus.
Complimenting Streitenfeld?s subtle score is a jarring and ear-piercing sound design, most effective during the plane crash that sends our hero Ottway (Neeson) and company hurling towards the icy ground. By cutting out the loud sound of a broken airlock with each splice, it?s all the more apparent and frightening when it returns. This abrasive sound editing is put to use throughout the film, keeping a rather repetitive script exciting enough.
Unfortunately, the repetitiveness is hard to ignore. Written by Carnahan and Ian Mackenzie Jeffers, the archetypal characters here never change much. Fire after fire, trek after trek, these men fear the wolves that are after them, and again. And again. Sure, the tough guy Diaz (played by Frank Grillo), softens up by the end, but for the most part there is nothing much dynamic in these manly men braving wolves and cold. Consider, in comparison, The Edge, the David Mamet-scripted survival tale which focused primarily on how the competitive relationship between two men makes a 180-degree change towards complete dependency whilst remaining just as competitive as ever.
These high-brow emotions are never at play in Carnahan?s film, which stubbornly refuses to dig into anything at all. And herein lies the ultimate problem with If I Stay: it?s determined to be more than an action thriller but unwilling to become a character-driven drama either. In fact, the most affecting moment in the film comes early on, moments after the plane crash, when Ottway talks a scared James Badge Dale through the realization that he is going to die. It?s a brutal scene that wears its heart on its sleeve.
The film comes close to this kind of honesty a couple more times ? over one fire, in particular, in which Dermot Mulroney remembers how his daughter wakes him up in the morning with her long hair ? but never fully invests in the tone. Conversely, when their is action, it?s full-stop. This includes an impressive cliff-jump sequence featuring capable character actor Dallas Roberts. During a scene like this, fans of the action-y Neeson will feel they are getting their money?s worth. There just isn?t that much of it.
What we are left with is two separate hour-long films that are both impressively-made and impressively-acted, one a thriller and the other a bleak drama. If only the two were stitched together a bit more.

Questions Answers
Could you provide a highlight reel of your career thus far with relevant ages? From the moment you "knew" you had to be a screenwriter; to completing and selling your first spec; to involvement in Jobs; to your future gigs? Also, how much money do you make? Or, to be more tactful, are you payin' yo' bills and eatin' good off them wordz? I sort of knew for sure I wanted to be a screenwriter in high school. I had always loved writing, and I tried my hand at novels, but the length scared me. I always had stories too big for paper, it seemed, because my mind tended to wander and get bored after 150 pages. To answer the rest, I had been working at a Dallas-based marketing firm (paying the bills, of course, writing on the side), when the project fell into my lap, as it were. I'll try to come back to this later with more detail.
What did you think of Steve Wozniak telling everyone not to watch the movie? Haha, yeah... The truth there?
He had actually read an early version of my script, liked it, gave some feedback, and we were about to send him a revised script when he told us he had been hired by Sony Pictures, and could no longer associate with our film.
So from that point on, taking everything with a grain of salt, everything he said about our picture he did while under Sony Pictures' employ, the studio that is funding the Sorkin Jobs script.
I'm sure we were inaccurate on many things, most of which were decisions I or the team made due to time restraints of a film, but Woz himself over the years has changed his tone and story on multiple occasions, so it's a bit hard to know the exact truth in many cases.
Did the film turn out as you imagined it when you were penning the screenplay? If not, what were the main differences ... and how did they come about? In fact, yes, when penning it I did envision films such as TSN, Network, The Insider, and Glengarry Glen Ross, to name a few. The big differences to me were fundamental disagreements I had with the vision of the Jobs character. Originally, I had written him much darker, or honest if you will. I wanted to show the nitty gritty, the hardships, the anguish and frustrations that Jobs had and that those who worked for him faced. It wasn't intended to be a "Jobs Greatest Hits" film, though some of that would have been in there of course, because love him or hate him, Steve Jobs accomplished an insane amount in his 56-ish years. I'll go into greater detail if I can later on, but let's just say there were those above my pay grade who envisioned a much more reverent film that I had pictured.
I think your version would've been much better, but like OP I didn't think it was BAD. Thanks, lol. I'll take not bad!
Anything creepy or funny that happened while filming the movie? How do you feel about the actor who played Steve Jobs? Also what's your favorite food? Creepy or funny... It was a fairly docile set, for the most part. One day we were shooting outside and suddenly stopped - in the middle of a take, and everyone moved away from this wall. Turns out, there was this pretty massive tarantula on the wall. No one would go near it, until Dermot Mulroney just walked up and grabbed it.
Anyway, I'll try to think of any other stories and come back if I do.
My favorite food? Tough. I love eggs. Cornbread? Steak? Sweet potatoes? Tex-mex? Okay now I'm just hungry.
Was Jobs all he was hyped to be? I have heard a lot of his ideas were not actually his, including the iPod that turned Apple around. He was rarely if ever the sole mind. One thing I think Jobs (the film) does show well is how critical Woz was in the early years, how his talents and genius were the true starting point of Apple. In those years, Steve was purely the idea/business guy. He was never a technical wizard, but he was smart enough and gifted enough to spot and recruit and inspire the best talent, and then he had the foresight to predict consumer needs and desires. And that combination of gifts and the right people was what made his "ideas" so memorable.
But no, I bet a lot of ideas came from others, but he was always adept at taking them and running with them and improving upon those concepts.
What would you recommend to an amateur screenwriter hoping to "make it big"? I don't mean in terms of writing tips, but rather the business model. How do you make connections? To whom do you send your work and how? Surely producers are sent tons of low-grade material that is barely worth sorting through - do they even consider any of it? My impression has always been that the business is 99% who you know. Is this true, and if so, how does one remedy that? I realize that's a series of different questions, but I'm essentially trying to communicate one big multifaceted question: How do you get a script read and seriously considered? You're completely right. It is 99% who you know. Breaking in is like joining a fraternity of douchebags who aren't accepting new members unless you're related to someone inside. My best advice for getting a script read, and this may not be helpful at all, is to track producers who are just off the main drag of Hollywood. That's to say, think of some of your favorite indies, then find those producers (on IMDB or somewhere), and see if they're still in the business of smaller or independent pictures. Those are a rare breed, to be sure, but they're the ones that are generally more welcoming of reading someone's work, but only if it's got a great pitch and you're persistence.
Wow an actual AMA not promoting some kickstartehere is my new foundation AMA. I have a few things in the works, none that are fully vetted or that I'm really ready to go into much detail about.
Despite the negativity I heard about this movie, I did rather enjoy it. It was entertaining, and I think the actors did a good job. How do you think your film measures up to "The Pirates of Silicon Valley" which was our first rendition of this story? Thank you, so happy you enjoyed it.
Boy, that film. Pirates. I'll be honest. I spent months reading, watching, and listening to every piece of literature, video, audio, etc. I could get my hands on when researching for this film. I had storyboards that took up entire rooms, all for walls, plastered floor to ceiling with papers and lists and names and timelines. It was like the worst LOST addict you'd ever seen.
And if I were to watch Pirates of Silicon Valley now? Man, it's just so inaccurate and downright false on most everything. Now, Noah Wyle did a fantastic job in the role, no doubt, but the stories are just so backward and everything is shown so out of context.
Obviously, we took liberties too. You just have to with only about two hour of screen time to work with, but I promise you, if nothing else, Jobs is the more accurate product of the two.
Fun fact most people don't know: all those scenes we shot in the early years, in the garage? That's actually, literally THE GARAGE and HOME where Apple was founded, where those events actually happened. It was amazing filming there, at Steve Jobs' childhood home and the birthplace of Apple.
As a screenwriter, do you feel as though your input is highly valued once production begins? Sometimes. I got into one yelling match with Ashton after the director refused to have him say a line (it was critical to the accuracy of the character, but they didn't want it because it put Jobs in a negative light; don't get me started), but in the end we "compromised", like 85% in their direction.
In general, on a film like this, my input was valuable especially to all the minor characters and accuracy's sake, but for the starring role and the way it's filmed? I had very little direct input.
How do you feel about the upcoming film on Steve Jobs written by Aaron Sorkin ? I hope it's great. I truly mean that. Sorkin is so talented (though pompous, but come on, he's earned it); I just hope they find the write talents for it. There's always plenty of narrative for many more stories about Steve, Apple, and all of Silicon Valley in the 70s and 80s. A fascinating time.
What are your favorite movie genres? And would you write for them? I really love them all. What a terrible answer that is, haha. Particularly action-dramas and sci-fi, and slow burning character dramas. But I'll see (or write) anything.
Thanks for your response. One more question if you don't mind: How did you end up being the writer for "Jobs"? Do you have to compete with other writers or the producers/someone approached you? The top producer approached me, actually. It was just that I actually worked for the company that ended up financing the film, and he approached me, knowing I was pursuing screenwriting on the side and as a long-term career, and asked me to write it. At first I thought he was kidding. He was not. So off I went!
What was it like working on a set based in the 80s, 90s? Also what emotions and reactions did you get when you were on the set all throughout the production? It was great, especially the 70s and 80s. I loved the nostalgia, it felt so real, and the sets were so well designed, especially on such a tight budget, that it was something spectacular to be a part of at times.
Said this earlier, but it's worth repeating here: Most people don't know this, but all those scenes we shot in the early years, in the garage? That's actually, literally THE GARAGE and HOME where Apple was founded, where those events actually happened. It was amazing filming there, at Steve Jobs' childhood home and the birthplace of Apple.
It was emotional, particularly shooting in the garage. Goose-bump inducing the first day we shot there. It felt like stepping into history. I'm no Steve Jobs worshipper by any stretch, but in those moments? Yeah, that was special.
What do you think Steve Jobs would say if he saw your movie? Probably "It's shit. Where's the originality?"
He MIGHT also say "Ashton's not bad."
I don't think he'd be one in favor of all the pomp and circumstance the film gives him.
Ironically, I think he might hate the film's reverent tone and yet also hate every moment that doesn't put Apple in perfect light.
I do believe wholeheartedly that he'd find it incredibly accurate to history, though he'd probably take offense to certain characterizations for himself and others.
Who was your dream actor for the role? Everything i write I have an actor in mind, did you have someone you wrote Steve for, or even wanted after the script was done? Honestly, I'm the opposite. I kind of try to envision no one when writing, but of course at a certain point it comes front and center in your mind.
My initial dream picks for Jobs were Ben Foster, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Christian Bale, Giovanni Ribisi, and Ryan Gosling, in that order.
I am going to school to become a screenwriter!! Any advice? Murder your darlings. Best advice I ever got. Meaning the things (characters, scenes, side plots, etc.) that you're most attached to are often the thing that has to go to make your script or story great.
So don't be afraid to murder your darlings. They might just save your script. =)
Didn't see the movie; but the buzz or reviews didn't make it sound good...do you think the marketing or advertising was lacking for jobs? I'll be honest: I HATED the marketing. All of it. The trailers, commercials, social media plays, and above all else, the awful poster, none of which sold the audience the way it was meant to be sold.
They targeted tween girls. That backfired.
But I encourage you to watch it, give it a chance.
It's on Netflix now, as of last week, so if you have Netflix, it's right there. =)
Look, I'm obviously super biased, but it is an interesting and accurate story. It's also pretty inspiring, I believe, for anyone who has a vision or dream they're pursuing. Also, Josh Gad is truly GREAT as Woz.
Once your script is picked up, how much control do you have over changes made for the film adaptation? A lot, actually. I was lucky enough to be on set the entire time. Now, did certain people take liberties beyond my control? Absolutely. There were a lot of scenes altered or cut entirely that I had say over, and most the filming was done in a much more reverent tone than the script called for, but I did get to work very closely with most all of the cast, so seeing many of the portrayals come off just right was great.
How'd you feel working on a movie about Steve Jobs, and what's you opinion on him? It was a blast, to be honest, but my opinion hasn't changed all that much on him.
What he accomplished -even giving full credit where its due to all those who helped make his visions and wild concepts into real, tangible objects- what nothing short of spectacular.
But he was no singular genius, he was a maniacal madman to work for, and he often took far too much credit than was due to him, especially in the very beginning.
I have incredible respect for the man, but I also understand that none of it would have been impossible alone.
Would you rather fight a horse sized duck or 100 duck sized horses? Oh, definitely the 100 duck-sized horses. A horse-sized duck sounds terrifying! I imagine its quacks alone could FUS-DO-RAH me to death, or if not that, the bill is killer.
You are a good sport, thank you. Of course! That may be the best question yet!
Skyrim reference! you sir are the true dragon born! Haha, just trying to keep the peace, traveler. Move along.
Who was your role model growing up? Batman.
But also Tigger.
What's a movie that gave you the biggest inspiration? Biggest inspiration, well, stealing my line from above, The Social Network (duh), Network, The Insider, and Glengarry Glen Ross, to name a few.
Also, Margin Call, which came out while I was writing Jobs, was helpful in a few places.
One other huge inspiration: The Godfather. It may sound obvious or generic, but either way, it helped inspire certain aspects of the Jobs character, and the highs and lows he experienced. Both are epics, in a sense (no, before anyone riots, I am not comparing Jobs to The Godfather), and focus on one character's often tragic, often inspired journey from basically nobody to nobility.
What was the best part or most fun and exciting thing about being a part of that movie? Getting to work with so many wonderful people, both cast and crew.
I know that sounds SUPER generic, but really, it was a blast.
Our set designer, Freddy Waff, did so much on such a tight budget, I don't know how it made it happen. Every set was wonderful and period-accurate to the smallest details, which I loved.
And for the cast, especially the garage and Mac-era guys, it became like a small fraternity. All those guys were great and so much fun to be around. Such a pleasure to work with so many of them.
Have you ever thought about writing a sequel? Haha, not really, and I don't think I would. I'll leave the rest of Jobs' life to others.
Let me clarify: I've been lucky enough to get a bit of writing work in the indie scene, but I'm having at breaking through into something bigger. I live what I write, and a big fear of mine is turning over my baby and watching as they not only change it and ruin it, but also cast Ashton Kutcher. Haha, um, well, it was a process, to be sure. At first, I hated it, couldn't buy it. It's Ashton Kutcher. No way he can do it. But then, after meeting with him, I saw that he COULD pull it off. Still never my choice, but I didn't hate it as much as I had at first. Then... Well you go back and forth, naturally. Did Ashton bring in a wider audience? Probably. Did he do a fine job? Yes, he was fine. Sometimes, he was too... Ashton-y, but at times he really embodied the role. But, yeah, in general a part of me will always wonder how different things could've been with a different lead.
Edited for the typo.
Could you post more proof, please? A selfie of you holding a piece of paper with your username and "/IAMA" written on it would do perfectly. Sure, does this work?: Link to twitter.com
How does it feel making a movie that should be on par with The Social Network but ended up being god-awful? A little harsh, but I can take it.
I honestly don't think it's "god-awful", and that's truly my most unbiased possible opinion. Is it great? No. Is it so much less than I had envisioned? Absolutely. But it's not awful.
Part of the issue is that once the announcement of Ashton Kutcher's casting when viral, people had it out for the film. How dare Kutcher play Steve Jobs. Hell, if I had been on the outside looking in, I would have completely agreed, and walked in already hating it myself.
But I think that's where a good portion of the hate comes from, a predisposition to dislike the film, hoping it fails. That's fair, to each their own. But I will say this: Jobs is DAMN ACCURATE. Woz can disagree all he wants, but he works for Sony Pictures, so he''s literally being paid to say disparaging things about this film.
But yes, it is extremely disappointing that the film was not up to consumer (much less my own) expectations. I think about it all the time.
Hey don't listen to this guy man. Nothing but a troll. And I think we all know movies are defined by more than their RT rating. For what it's worth, I enjoyed your movie is just as much as the Social Network. But a question though, what did you see in Ashton that made you realize that he was the perfect Steve Jobs? The first time I met with Ashton it was at his house, which was intimidating to start. But Josh (the director) had met with him before, and assured me he was perfect for it. I was more than a little skeptical, I mean, it's the Punk'd guy, right? Well, I don't want to sound hyperbolic, but I swear within five minutes of meeting Ashton I was sold. He just embodied the part so well, the walk, the mannerisms, the motions and emotions. He never had the voice, but that was the only obvious difference between the character and actor.
here I thought my username would never give away my real name. Thanks for the answer. Best of luck in future productions, I look forward to see more of your work. I don't know how I decoded your real name from your username either!

I was excited for this movie ever since I heard about it and finally had the pleasure of watching it. This is the very first movie I have seen by Chan-wook Park and I will definitely watch more. The movie is fairly slow, especially around the beginning, but as India Stoker spoiler the pace picks up pretty dramatically.
Few movies have a perfect cast, and I believe this one did. Mia Wasikowska was lovely as always, Matthew Goode was charming and frightening, and Nicole Kidman was great as the aging mother desperate for the attention of a young man. Dermot Mulroney was in this film briefly, but was also very believable as a man conflicted over what he knew about his brother and his desire to help him.
5/5, this movie was great.
